Important Information Regarding Canine Influenza

Dear Valued Pet Owners,
As your veterinarian, we feel it is our responsibility to inform you that the H3N2 strain of canine influenza, which was prevalent in the Midwest throughout the last year, now has multiple cases reported throughout Austin and the surrounding areas. Due to the severity of this disease and the high volume of pets circulating throughout our clinic, we feel it in the best interest of all our patients to require the H3N2 Canine Influenza Vaccine, effectively immediately. Although the vaccine cannot guarantee the prevention of the canine flu, it does provide the best defense available to lower the risk and severity of infection. The vaccine requires an initial injection, followed by a booster injection three weeks later.

Below you will find a link from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with more information and best practices to help prevent the contraction and spread of infection. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at (512) 329-5177 or [email protected]

Best Regards,
Dr. Holcomb and Staff at Hill Country Animal Hospital
